can anyone give me a brief history and some information about Nordstrand pickups in general? such as where they are made from? how long have they been in the business? and prominent bands or musicians who use/endorse them? i know allot of bassist use em over here in TB, can some of you maybe even give me some of your opinions good or bad?

their website is quite lax in terms of general information of their company or even a simple biography

thanks

They're made by Carey Nordstrand in Yucaipa, California (southern California high desert). You could call him at (909) 790-2548 and get all your questions answered. I just ordered a LeCompte VB5 with Nordstrand dual coils, and I have Nordies in my Fender Mustang. The ones I heard at NAMM sound great.

I think he's been in business for about 8 years. Here's a link to a little bio on his guitar site (he makes superb basses).

I've installed Nordstrand pups in several of my instruments. They are considered to be on the top end of what's available. First rate quality.

On my 74' Jazz changed the basslines humcancellings to nj4 single coils PUs. I very happy with they, nice clear, open sound. It doesn't make a "sound", it sounds as you sounds.

if you planning on being a distributor for Nordstrand products the best and obvious way to get educated about it wouldn't be to contact the shop/company and ask all you need to know right at the source instead of here on TB where info can often be distorted and/or not accurate?

Just a thought

Ps: BTW, what country?

I'm just getting some outside opinion and information, but you make a valid point ; online information could be easily fabricated to ones preference. I have been in contact with nordstrand a while ago and they have been helpful with product information.
I just wanted to know some opinions and experience from an everyday bassist about nordstrand pickups.
I personally perceive they are gonna be quite talked about in the future , if not already now.

Thanks for the insight though

Country is Malaysia

that's cool, but most of your questions on the OP are more in the nature of matter of facts than opinion…. that's the reason of my previous reply…

Do a search here on TB, you'll find lots to read down

BTW, Nordstrand, as we "speak", is moving to a new location, expect possible delays with communications….

What's the nature of their move ? I hope it doesn't change the products QC or it's customer support

so far they have been
extremely helpful, this is why I enjoy doing business with smaller companies compared to big names ( not gonna disclose any names, but I'm sure you have an idea)

It's just a move. From an old building to a better and more efficient one.

I got an EBMM Sterling fretless which I love for the neck but I did not like the pickup. Had a Nordstrand 4.2 installed and it's pretty awesome. So I'm a fan.

Still in Yucaipa? Or (I hope) closer to LA?

I love his pickups and have them installed on several basses.

Got a NP4 installed on my 78P, a set of NJ4 on my Black J (copy) and a MM4.3 on my 93 MM Sterling. Also have a pair of Big Singles waiting to be installed on my CAR J (copy).

Carey is a great builder, in my opinion Nordstrand pickups blends "vintage" warmth with modern evenness tone.
