I just saw on the Nordstrand site that they have developed a pre-amp. Anyone else have additional info? Cost? Release date?

The preamp is very close to being done. I have a new batch of circuitboards and op amps coming in today do I should be doing the final R&D today and tomorrow. I've got 3 Nordy's on the wall waiting for the new preamp, so I've got to get it sorted today and tomorrow.

The design is done, it's just a matter of getting the final details nailed down. It'll be a three band with +/-12db @50hz and +/- 12db @4khz. These may be tweaked a touch as I listen to the preamp in a few different basses. The mids are +/- 12db @ 100hz increments between 200hz and 1khz. Flat gain is adjustable from -10db to +10 db by a trim pot on the board.

I should have it ready to ship to dealers in 2-4 weeks. We'll announce more on the website when we know it.

Is it very different from the Audere preamp?

The Nordstrand site says that "its somewhere between the organic nature of the Audere and the "traditional" active sound of the Aguilar."

I'm using the the Aguilar 2 band with my NJ5F single coils and LOVE the tone. This combo gives me tone that I would not call modern or active sounding. I prefer the 6k center frequency for the active treble control; it's not too high or too low.

Regardless of what the Nordstrand site says, I'm willing to bet that it will sound musical. (Musical, what's THAT?!) You know, all tech-talk aside...

I really dig the Aguilars, but I look forward to Carey's latest contribution to the bass game.
