Norstrand Pickups wooden cover Query .

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey !!

I saw some pickups that Nordstrand make for sale . They were sold without the outer plastic covers so that one may make a wooden cover for them . I am very much interested in these pickups . I want to know if the wooden/plastic covers I will make for them will make a huge compromise on tone if there arent any holes in the cover . What I mean to say is that the pickup cover wont have any holes for the pole pieces to pop out of . I will radius the outer covers so that they match the radius of the neck . I plan to do this in addition to having a ramp installed . Will the particular radiused pickup covers with holes have a huge compromise on tone and will I loose some of the output .

Thanks ,
Vibhas .

No, there will be no noticeable difference in tone or volume unless you make the covers way too thick.

Ya they are DC wired in parallel . I think I'll hook it upto an Anguilar preamp too . 18 Volts . I saw the pickups here :

the dc have a lot of magnetic pull and you'll have anyway to set them way further then a regular pup (single coil, big single, split...), so no problem with the thickness of the cover (as long it is not half a inch!).
Aguilar is a good pre, but if you go with Nord pups I would also consider a Nord pre.... just my 2 centavos!
