I was going around the net the other day looking for a new bass when i stumbled across a particular one that i might be interested in.

Although by a closer look at it i noticed the pickup type which is neither P or J which is the only ones im currently familiar with.
Can anyone tell me something about this and is this even a decent bass to put my fingers on? I really want a 5-string, i dig Flea from the Red Hot. Is Modulus even a decend brand? Should i just go for a Fender Standard Jazz like he uses himself?

modulus basses are very good, and very modern sounding, they are high quality man!

its an acquired taste though, try all sorts of things.

also: flea does use modulus too, not just fender and MM

And also in the true English language fashion... MM also equals- Marcus Miller

Just trying to confuse you.

By the way, I had a Flea 5 and it was the BEST live bass I owned. More so than my Fodera's or Sadowsky's or MTD's...etc. You get my point. They are solid basses.

Flea uses Modulus quite a bit himself and people seem to love them, though they're definitely not my taste. The pup yer looking at is just a humbucker with a closed cover. Think Ernie Ball.

You cannot even start to consider to spend that kinda money on a bass with out knowing what you're getting. If you don't know what a MM/Humbucking pickup is and sounds like don't just buy a bass with one to find out. The best way to buy a new bass is to try it first, if you're looking for cheap/second hand go to the sellers house and try it out!!

Flea wise: If you want to sound like flea, practice alot, but then if you want to sound like yourself but good practice alot (personally i'd always go for the second option, there already is a flea)

But yeah pickup is a humbucker
