| If you absolutely, positively need pure single coil tone, then get the regular Fralins. If you want something very close to pure single coil tone, but without the hum, the Split-Jazz are excellent IMO. I've had a set for six years, and have been completely satisfied. To my ears, they sound almost exactly like pure singles, but have a little less "air" in the highs. If you normally roll off the treble even a modest amount, you might not notice a difference.
If you want to go noiseless, however, you should also consider the much less expensive DiMarzio Area J. I have these in a G&L JB, and they are also excellent. They have lower output than the Fralins, but also sound very close to single coils. Some think they sound closer to vintage Fenders than the Fralins, and perhaps that's true. They sure do produce classic J-bass tone to my ears, with lots of clarity, and they sound great in a band mix.
