Novak Charlie Christian P review?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone have this pickup and could provide a review of it? I am really leaning towards getting one for a 94 ri P I just bought and kinda want something unique. This pup sounds very interesting on paper.

I already have my Tele style splitcoil P with a Lollar that I love for the old school P thump. On the 62, I want to do something a little more aggressive. It sounds like the CC could be the answer.

Anyone have this pup??

Someone posted recently about this pickup. Within the last 2 weeks I believe. I believe he bought one. Check through all the old posts.

search, my friend:

Old School P-bass tone

Best P Tone EVER

Which p bass pickup sounds most like a soapbar?

Curtis novak/Fender CS/Lindy Fralin, pickups

and my marginal clip:

I absolutely love this pickup, it is way better than the stock MIM I had, and I like it a lot better than the Nordstrand I had in a parts bass. It's definitely worth a try. Maybe I'll record another clip or two and put them up this weekend.

here's a clip, MIM p w/ the CC, strung w/ TI's, into a Low End True Voice, into an Apogee Duet, into Garageband.

I appreciate the replies. I have been on talkbass daily for over 5 years with well over 1000 posts, so I am well aware of the search function.

I have read all the recent threads with a paragraph here and there about it. I guess I was looking for a lengthy review type response for myself and perhaps others who will be interested in the future.

I'd try to describe how much I love this pickup, but I'm not sure how well I could do it. It blew the Nordstrand away in my opinion, punchier, warmer, etc. I think Curtis really describes it well on his website:

"These 2 features create a VERY FAT tone that over drives well, and creates very nice growl. But most importantly using the heavier gauge wire gets you all this without the extra midranges that most other over wound pickups give."

And hopefully those clips give some idea of the pickup. That's about all I got. If you want to hear more clips I'd be glad to put some up.

Thanks. I'm not near my desktop so I don't have audio. I will listen to them as soon as I can. The descriptions of it sound promising!
