NP4 Q??

Sign in to disble this ad
I've tried a Nordstrand NP4 in several basses and cannot figure out whats going on with it To get any descent sound from it, I have to raise the pickup so close to the strings it interferes with playing. Any lower, it just sounds weak and...........thin Dimarzios and Fender P pickups work at a normal functioning height, it's just the Nordy that doesn't seem right.

Any suggestions??

Hmm.. I'm sort of wondering this myself. I just installed one and it seems that the output is a little lower than usual.

Yes. All rewired with new pots and cap. My OLD Dimarzio pickup sounds great in the bass, the Nordy doesn't

Output on my 78-PBass with NP4 is similar to the stock PU. This is not a very high gain PU but not the way you are saying. You should ask Carey on his forum.

my understanding is that the NP4 is modeled after the older vintage Fender P's and the output is not great, but the tone is sweet and round...

It is also my understanding that the DiMarzios are a bit higher output and a bit more agressive than the vintage P's.

I agree 100% with both of these posts. I'd certainly contact Carey.

Nordstrand forum is off for now but Carey use to chime in here once in a while.
Good luck
