NTBT-918... can I go 18volt? why would I?

I'm a "passive" Fender guy with no "active" knowledge!

I'm installing my first NTBT-918 in my first custom bass (like a virgin?). The only schematic I found has only a 9 volt in the diagram.

My question is, can an NTBT-918 handle 18 volts and if so... what are the advantages?

Thanks!

Yes. The advantage is increased headroom. this isn't really necessary if you have lower output (or more correctly, non-high output) pickups and don't spend a lot of time with maximum bass boost. Barts do have a input volume pot for the most part, so if you get distortion, you can just turn it down. It's the mini blue pot that goes inside the control cavity.

I have an NTBT inside my jazz and i just don't think there is any audible difference in sound between 9 & 18 volts, there's a little more headroom but that's not necesarily better.
