Passive Phase II NYC Soapbar

Quote:
Same dual coil J-type pickup design found in some of the world’s best basses. The four conductor cable allows a wide variety of tonal options. Wire it in parallel mode for a slightly thickened single coil sound that is hum-cancelling; wire it in series mode for high output and maximum punch and fullness, or wire it in single coil mode for a true vintage Jazz Bass® sound. The Alnico 2 rod pole pieces provide a tone that is punchy and focused with a natural and smooth upper midrange. Compared to an active soapbar, the tone is warmer and more organic.

Is it possible to switch between parallel, series and single coil modes? Do these pickups need a preamp? I wish these would be available for 4-string basses too.

This is how I want it. 3 pickups, 3 slide switches (on/off) for each pickup, 1 master volume, 1 master tone (passive), 4-band EQ, active/passive switch, parallel/series/single coil switch. Why 3 pickups? The EBMM Big Al was inspiration for this idea. Is this too much or kind of silly to go that way?

You'll run the risk of some severe magnetic interference on the strings with 6 pole-sets per string. It can work, but all the pickups will have to be really low. I find that most dual humbuckers create enough problem, let alone adding a third.

However, it just might be crazy enough to work!

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but I have a set of these I'm getting ready to install, and I'm not attempting any fancy switching stuff (i'm a sub-amateur when it comes to soldering, wiring, etc.) so i want to know how they sound in series vs. parallel. I plan on just running them passive. sounds like someone (DTF) has got them lined up with a series/parallel switch. duncan's recommended config is parallel (i know that manufacturer recs don't necessarily mean much) my primary bass is a warwick corvette 5 $$, and i tend to have the neck in series and the bridge in parallel for most (or at least a lot) of stuff. Is it natural to think that since I don't plan on installing (or using) a preamp with this bass that I should opt toward series for higher output??

any re's are well appreciated.
