Question OBP-3 in an SR905

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an SR905 with stock MK1s and stock preamp and I was thinking of the 3 band aguilar. I LOVE the body and the neck but I just want some more versatility(and better tone would be nice!).

The bass has 5 knobs total right now--Vol, pickup select, bass, mid, treble. I really don't want to have any routing done so I want to stick with that layout and I want to keep it at 9v unless you think 18v would be a SERIOUS improvement/advantage.

Which kit on this page should I be looking at?
http://www.bestbassgear.com/aguilar-obp3-preamp.htm

One thing I am confused about is whether or not there has to be a switch. On this page: MusiciansFriend Page It says: "Includes separate treble, bass, and push/pull midrange pots." I would rather have that than a switch.

Also, is my pickup select knob going to be able to function?

Don't worry, I won't be attempting to install it myself. I found someone experienced to install it and he will do everything for $100.

Usually the only switches are the push pull pots. The blend knob will still work with this pre, but I had a problem with the volume getting lower with the blend at center, 50/50%. There shouldn't be any routing needed. If you have the control cavity room, and the instructions say it's okay, have your tech add a second 9 volt battery connection. It'll give you more headroom/ better signal to noise ratio. Also, if you have the money ($200) you can upgrade both pickups with USA Bartolini Mk-5's, a good improvement on my Lakland fretless's tone.

Yeah, I'd love to get MK-5's but I am going to get the pre first.

Thanks for the advice.
