octave + envelope filter

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm interested in combining octave and envelope filter, but was wondering if there is a single effect unit that does both things well. The last time I tried multi-effect units in the early 90's, I was not impressed with any of them. Lately, it seems as if high-quality analog effects are being offered by several boutique builders and I'm finally interested in giving it them a try. Am I better off with separates for these effects? thanks,
R

If you'd like to add a fuzz and an attack delay the Bass Microsynth does all four.

yes, separate effects are better. that said, the ones i'd use were around the early nineties: Boss OC-2 and Ibanez AF-9

For a more modern approach, I'd try both EBS units...

an interesting combination might be the EHX Bass microsynthesizer... I had the old one and it was rather fun, but the filter section was not what i wanted...

i'm sure others will have more suggestions

thanks for the replies. The microsynth is new to me and I have yet to try the EBS. I really liked the simplicity of the MXR e-filter and the ability to balance out the wet/dry mix.

Check out This video demo from Ed Friedland. MXR M82 envelope filter(next on my list) and MXR Octave deluxe. He combines them at the 7 minute mark.

Sorry- I should have put this in the effects forum.
Ed's demo of the two together nails one of the sounds I'm after.

I'd say yes, you're most likely better off with individual effects combined, but since it was the 90's when you tried out multi-fx units, you might want to consider trying a decent one out now. Digital multi-fx have improved drastically in the last 15 years.

Personally, I love my EHX Bass Microsynth, especially because of it's filter controls, as it allows you to pick the frequency where the sweep starts and stops, but it has it's own sound. Very old school, analog sounding. I also have an Aguilar Octamizer and a Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk on my board that work well together as well, and add in a little gated fuzz (Woolly Mammoth clone, on my board anyway) and you're in synth heaven.
