Off centre pickups

Hi,

I've just bought a Crafter Cruiser bass which has the pickups slightly shifted North of the strings so that the E string is further from the edge of the pickup than the G string. Will this have any effect on the sound? I'm asking because I don't have an amp yet and can't try it out. This was the last one in the shop and they don't plan to get any more in so I can't compare.

Thanks,

Paul.

Depends on the pickups. I had a bass where the pickups were shifted slightly, just as you described, and it altered the string balance pretty significantly, but my excitement about the bass caused me to not notice until I had the bass for a week. The manufacturer gladly rectified the situation.

Every pickup manufacturer has a different approach to magnets, pole pieces, flux lines, etc. The only way to know is to plug it in.
