It sounds as if your OLP had the pickup replaced. Usually passive OLP basses (you didn't say if it was passive) have the two coils with each wired with it's own volume and a single tone.
It's HIDEOUS electronics! It sounds nasty and it is REALLY difficult to dial-in a stingray tone.
A much better arrangement is the two coils in series. And even better is to add an active stingray (or stingray clone like Uncle Fluffy) preamp. This will turn that OLP into a amazing bass. In that case you just use the two wires from the pickup (which is probably already wired in series) to feed the preamp and EQ.
