Opinion - ACTIVE EMG on PBass - Waste of Time

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy (and thanks)

I have a PBass.. nothing to write home about... not an investment.. I play churches, small gigs etc.

Have you swapped out your single pickup with an EMG?

Is this a waste of time and money .. or just an upgrade?

Thank you.

Tim

Looking for folks who have done this - not just opinions

I did this and I thought it was a waste of money. I didn't like the tone it gave out and it sounded too generic.

I have switched out the pickup in every P-bass I've owned (3) for an EMG. It improved the tone drastically. The only thing that made me take the EMG out was the Nordstrand P bass pickup. The Nordstrand is now in my P-bass to stay. If you have any other questions, ask away.

I'm a reformed EMG user. Loved them in the 80s and 90s... grew out of them later. However, I recently put one in a SX P bass and it sounds great!!... who knew!!

I'm smart enough not to have done it.

it's a different tone...drastically different. If you are hum drum about the bass now you might prefer the EMG tone. If you can get a good deal on a used one go for it!! then you'll know for yourself!

generally the over all frequency response of the EMG pickup is much wider than a standarp p ...deep lows and all the harmonics jump out.
