P/j bass shielding
 

Hey guys, this is my first rebuild of a mim active fender p/j deluxe special, I got the copper tape, sanded down the cavities, gotten down some of the flooring and the walls in the control cavity but im lost when it comes to shielding the input jack area, how far do I go into it if at all in?Attachment 315424 is there any p/j tut around all I can find is lyle's j pictoral. Im gonna need some help when my preamp and pups come in too, where and what to ground n such

I just went through this today. I found it best to leave the jack area unshielded - it was too easy to ground out the signal between the plug, jack, and copper.

It depends on the type of jack. If it is the typical open frame type jack, then yes, it is easy for the leads to touch the copper and kill your signal at the worst possible moment. It is probably OK to leave this as is.

Don't forget to shield the underside of the pickguard and to be sure that it is connected to the cavity ground as well.

Oh - also - it is the OUTPUT jack. Sound comes out of it.
