P5 & MM5 ALNICO

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am looking to replace the PU on my brand new Sandberg PM5.
Swapping PUs on brand new bass? (P5 content)

I am looking for ALNICO P and MM PU for 5 string.

Who makes good ALNICO 5 sring P and MM PUs?
Nordstrand? I didn't see a P5 on his website, although Nino seems to be using them in his basses.
Who else?

Michael Dolan (w.dolanguitars.com) made the P on this one. (BTW, this is my latest toy that he put together for me).

The bridge PU is a G&L I already had, but afaik, he'll make what you need.

Wow, that is a great looking bass!

I opted for the Norstdrand NP5 and MM5.4.

I'll be getting them in a month.

Well apparently the dimensions of the Nordies are different than the Sandbergs.
So no Nordies for me

This bass might come up in the For sale section in a couple of days....

hi gillento,

what happened ? you don´t like the sandberg anymore ? what are the reasons ? the pu´s, the whole thing ?
i´m just trying to decide if i should get a sandberg PM5 (alder body, hardcore aged finish) that i have borrowed for the next 2 weeks to try out...so far i like it very much. so i´d like to know what threw you off because it might help me decide.

cheers,
lowstar

These Delanos are alnico. Coincidentally, I had Mike Dolan install them for me:

Have you made an inquiry with Delano?

I believe the Sandbergs are copies of Delanos so they Delano pickups should fit fine.

I think the delano is good in that bass. What you don't like about it, the sound or the bass?

Delano are good pickup and pretty expensive too. The p and mm should give you tons of mid to cut via and also punchy bass as well.

Can you record any clips flat so we can listen you bass?

In the meantime I had german PU guru Harry Häussel make me some PUs and they are the bomb. I replaced the stock Glockenklang preamp with a Sadowsky preamp too.

Now the bass sounds a lot darker and has more punch in the lows and low mids. Perfect for pick playing
