Painting a pickup cover

Heya.

I have stock pickups in my MIM Jazz, and I wanted white covers on them instead of black ones. I understand that you can purchase these things using the wonders of the internet, but the frugal spender in me is looking for other options.

Has anyone attempted this? Am I crazy? If not, how would you go about doing this? Will a sand and a few coats of spray paint accomplish this?

You can get something like Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. But keep in mind that if the strings rub on the pickups the paint will come off eventually.

Yeah, everyone seems to prefer the Krylon paint for doing this.
