pairing a humbucking jazz pickup with a single coil
I understand this may be a bit foolish, but ive been working on a project bass for a bit...its a squier jazz body with a gfs maple neck. it has 2 single coil pickups and i have a nordstrand nj4se left over from a p/j bass that i converted to a regular p bass.
ideally, id like to have an additional humbucking jazz pickup in the neck but those arent too cheap...im wondering if i would have any output and/or tone problems with having a humbucking jazz pickup in the bridge paired with a single coil, at least til i have a humbucking jazz pickup? the single coil is the duncan-designed pickups that come stock in the VM basses.
any opinions would be appreciated...especially if there is a cheaper alternative to an additional nj4se that is hum-cancelling and would still sound good.
