Peavy TL5 Pick Up Upgrade

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm new here. I have had a Peavy TL5 for quite a few years. I like the Bass well enough. I'm looking for some good impute on changing out the PU's and preamp and maybe put in some Bartolini's. The PU's are passive. I want to heat up the tone and give it some "crunch" and "punch".

IMHO...I don't know of any drop in PUs for either version of the TL-5. You'd probably be better off selling it to someone who would like it as it is and and put that cash with the $$$$ for PUs, pre and installation and buy something else that trips your trigger.

Thumbs up Thanks....

Really that's the best advise. For now I'm gonna keep some new strings on it and save up for something else. You can sink a lot of money and still not have what you want.

TL-5s have plenty of punch for me. They aren't known for crunch. I've played through some tube amps that added nice crunch when wanted. If you like the way it plays and feels maybe a tube preamp emulator pedal is what you're looking for. I've never really thought of a bass as being crunchy, except when I backed over one (not really).
