Phone for pickup

Sign in to disble this ad
i was thinking something, If I take a phone mic and do some plugin it would make a nice piezo pickup...

Phone=Mic=piezo=sound=Scrap that phone=take the mic in the phone=Make some wiring=a peizo pickup

Maybe im right maybe im not but i wanna know if this make sense.

errr? Maybe you should go away and rethink how to phrase it. Come back when you can make it sound a little clearer to what you want to convey.

But...

Generally, home grown pickups are less effective and more expensive than say an off the shelf pickup from Seymour Duncan.

ok ill rephrase this.

In a phone there is a piezotransducer ok. (something that change vibration in electricity)

So if we do some rewiring and take that piezo, you could do a piezo pickup.

In fact it is already a pickup. Maybe you understand me now.

It may be a piezo pickup in a phone. I don't know because I haven't looked inside one since the old days when they were not piezos. But why fool around with that when you can buy very cheap piezos all over the place? You might save yourself $7 or so if the phone pickup is free Another thing to consider is the fact that a piezo pickup needs a very high impedance preamp to allow it to work properly in the average input of a bass or guitar amp. There are a few cheap preamps around for that too or you could bulid your own.

What are you actually trying to accomplish sound wise?

Seriously i just want to experiment, so i'm looking just for sound to come out of that piezo. Also, I've go to Rona(quebec canada) and they don't even know what is a piezotransducer. Also i'm new to that preamp thing and don't even know what is impedence.

p.s. I am a thinker and love to fool around thing even if it's not necessary. Thanx for your help in advance.

Er... what would a piezo pickup be doing in a phone? I bet it's either diaphragm magnetic carbon magnetic or diaphragm crystal...

For a piezo to work as a piezo, it would have to be affixed to your larynx to pick up sound...otherwise it's just a severely band-limited transducer... right?

so do you think a band limited transducer would work as a pickup?

I'm pretty sure the only piezo part in a telephone is the electronic ringer... The mic will almost always be a dynamic mic of some sort.

Well, sure it would work in terms of picking up a sound but those are often limited to hearing stuff in the 2000 to 8000hz range - for voice pickup - so if you put it on a bass, a lot of the fundamental is going to be outside of the range it can reproduce. They also tend to have really poor S/N ratios...

But hey, it's been known to be done... I own a bass made by a guy who back in the old country he and his friends used to destroy payphone handset mouth pieces to get the parts to make pickups... so anythings possible...just grab one and experiment away!

A lot of cheap-o phones use PCB mounted subminiature condensor mics these days. They're completely useless for bass frequencies.

If you've got a phone you're itching to crack open, though, I say go for it.

Having said that, Radio Shack sells little piezo speakers that can be cracked open so you can rip out the element intact. They have the advantage of being dirt cheap, flat, and with leads attatched. I built several of my own pickups and preamps to expiriment, before installing a commercial model on my bass.

The pickups work fine, mind you, but I discovered that position and pressure counted more than the element itself.

Edit: JustOpenYourMind beat me to it. AND in french.

S'il vous plâit, écrivez en anglais si possible.
If possible, please write in English. Most of us here cannot read French (and my command of the language is rusty; I apologize if my accents are misplaced).
I did like the thermostat joke, though.

It is certainly possible Since the Op was from Quebec, I assumed he spoke french and just posted like that.

It's ''S'il vous plaît'' though, but for somebody in California, your french seems pretty good. :P

Any further interventions in this thread will be made in english.
