Pick Up Insurance????

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a set of Fender "Custom Shop 60's" pickups from Musicians Friend and the salesman told me to get the 2 year insurance ($25) because he says he's had a few customers you say their pickups have gone out on them after 7-8 months of regular playing. I have 30 days to decide. But, if a pickup is bad, it would be bad right off? It's going into a Jazz Bass. How do passive Jazz Bass pickups go bad if not abused? You think he's getting commission for the insurance? Or is this true?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard... No you shouldn't insure your pickups. Pickups from the 60s and 70s are still going strong. Pickups weaken over time, but not in 2 years. Chances are he's trying to sell you on them because he gets a good cut from the insurance.

Doesn't Fender have at least 1 year manufacturer warranty?

On a higly competitive market with tighter margins, the extra insurance is how they make their living, that's the first thing managers teach them "Always try to put the client in doubt and fear and sell him our insurance program".
