Pick up questions for LTD bass

I have an ESP LTD B-104, and well the sound is less then stellar. its very quiet, even with the pick ups damn near touching the strings, it's still very weak. i just think the ESP pups suck and im thinking about changing them out.
This leads to a couple of questions:

1 Can you take an active bass and make it passive by replacing the current active pups with passive ones?

2 If not what are some good humbuckers for a bass with basswood body?

I really dont want to get rid of the bass (i'm leaning towards it) because i honestly love the neck and feel of this thing, I just hate the quiet pups.

EMG's will answer all your worries. Strong output and they sound great in any bass. ESP LTD uses standard p'up sizes too, so the EMG's will drop right in. I would recommend the 35DC with an EMG pre. They come prewired and are very easy to install.

Since the B-104 has four pots and most passive setups only use three (vol,vol,tone or vol,blend,tone) you will have an empty hole. Many options for that, you could put in a switch to run the p'ups in parallel or series or you could go with a vol/tone for each p'up. The HZ's are a decent quality p'up, and again, they will drop right in.

Humbuckers won't fit without routing the p'up cavities, something I would not recommend on an instrument you like.

I'm not sure what passive pickups with fit in those routes. I'm an EMG guy myself so I lean towards those I think Seymour Duncan might have passive pickups that are the same shape?
