Pick up and tone help

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive got a standard fender p bass with ghs flea boomers on it. I play through a fender 100w rumble combo. I want to get a funky tone while slapping and a nice smooth tone for finger style. i really like fleas tone in all of his songs. What can I do to improve my tone? I'm open to a lot of things. I was thinking of swapping my stock pups with DiMarzio DP127s and maybe switch my bridge to a badass II bridge. Any other suggestions, effects, strings, etc?

I think there's an Alembic P bass pickup, on Ebay right now. That would be your ULTIMATE pickup for that bass. Be ready to bid up to 500.00 though

Most slap players like a preamp, because it makes for a hotter signal, resulting in more definition. Brightness/punch.

My favorite preamp for slap, is a Status 300 board.

EMG BQS

Audere

Those are my 3 favorite.

I also like a passive motown/passive slap tone.

If I were you, I would just stick with what you got, untill you can afford a good slap bass.

Just keeping a fresh set of DeAddario stainless rounds, will give you a good slap tone.

Put a new set on once a week, to keep your great slap tone
