Hi
Does anyone know if it's ok to put some clear glue on the pole pieces on a pick up to get rid of the "click" that gets really loud playing through an amp? I don't have the pu too close to the strings. I've experimented with this and it's just on this one bass that I have this problem when playing on the G-string and anchoring my thumb on the B-string at that point. If I lower the pu even more I loose all the sound so I would prefer not having to do that. I actually have quite a big space now but I seem to push down the B-string occasionally playing on the G-string.
Would putting some glue affect the sound in any way? |

| | | | Ha ha, what happened to my initial thread subject?
Thanks to spaz 21387 for tips. I've added some clear glue now and it seems to have reduced the click a bit although not totally. Glue on the pole pieces doesn't seem to affect the tone anyway ;-) |

Also, none of my business, but stretching all the way to the g string while anchoring your thumb on the b, that's quite far isn't it? I use floating thumb myself (though admittedly I only own 4stringers), maybe that would help you too? Your angle of attack should be altered that way, so maybe your clicking problem will disappear completely?

| | | | No problems ;-)
Yes I know it's a pretty long stretch and I don't have the intention technically to anchor my thumb that way. I use the floating thumb about 98% of the time but sometimes, in action, I seem to anchor and even thought it's not often it's disturbing when it happens. It only happens on my Yamaha 5 str that has a little bit more narrow string spacing so I guess my right hand accidentally goes into some kind of 4 str mode. I followed spaz 21387 tip and put a small pice of gaffers tape and it doesnt look that good but it works very well. The "uumphh" disappeared totally and the sound is good... |

| | | | Good looks are just a passing stage... so I'll go with the ugly but satisfying solution... and it's cheap too. The backend of a horse can be a beautiful sight in the right situation ;-) |
