pick-ups

Sign in to disble this ad
i'm desiging a bass (5 string), and i wanted to experiment with pick-ups.
my idea is (from neck to bridge) humbucker, jazz, precision, jazz, soapbar (narrow).
the question is, where can i find those pick-ups for a 5 string with NO batteries, all at the same site? (not the cheap pick-ups)

the pick-ups are...

Humbucker - 72M55C / XXM55C
Jazz - 57CBJD
Precision - 58CBP
Soap Bar - X55CBJD

so, your going to make a bass with 5 different pickups, and you dont know if barts require batteries or not? well, bartolini pickups are generaly active, but the classic bass serries is a pasive line of pickups that dont require battery power. good luck.

That's gonna be one reeeeally strange sound, and a pain in the ass to do the wiring, not to mention expensive. You'd probably be best off sticking to two pickups. If you do want to be experimental about it try something like using a jazz and a musicman style, or pickups that can be used as humbuckers and single coils with the flip of a switch (do a search on coil tapping).

thanks for the info.

is the humbucker (XXM55C) passive?

i was actually thinking about putting each pick-up on a 5-way selector switch. (humbucker, jazz, precision, soapbar, all) i'll have the 5-way switch and a master tone and master volume.

how about making a few different pickguards with just a big route below and just use a plug on the end of the pickups, i.e so you can make your bass a p, then make it a jazz, then a stingray... attach the pickups to the pickguard like on a strat.

i could, but i like the idea of a selector switch better. also the pickguard thing will destroy the wood if i keep changing it.

(is the humbucker (XXM55C) passive?)
