Pickguard static

Sign in to disble this ad
Two competing problems:

1) My pickguard crackles when I play thumb-pop style; that is, when my fingers slide back and forth along the pickguard, it creates static that I can hear through the speaker.

2) I hate the smell of Static Guard.

Any suggestions?

Never had but heard of the problem in threads and it's a grounding/shielding issue that seems to have been resolved by different things: complete shielding, reshielding the pickgaurd, grounding the shielding, and even removing the shielding from a pickguard so it's just plastic have all produced results for different players.

Fixed it!

This is weird: the club where I play every weekend serves a dessert called a "classic Ding Dong", and it's just like the Hostess variety, except it's made with real ingredients. It's fantastic. Anyway, they add to the "decor" by serving this dessert with a piece of aluminium foil (like you'd have to remove if you bought it at a store). And I got an idea...

I ordered a dessert (they're really good, what can I say?), and I asked for EXTRA FOIL. I took a piece and ripped it to fit under my pickguard, loosened the screws of both the pickguard and the control plate, and slid it into place where I could screw it down between the guard and the plate, thereby 'grounding' the guard. Worked PERFECTLY - problem solved.

Thought I'd share!

Yeah - see the above post.
