Pickup Broken?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased the Curtis Novak split coil telebass pickup and installed it. See the link for the pickup I purchased. As a result of the tight cavity on the bass, a Warmoth body, one of the wires has broken. It isn't broken from the spool of wire to the metal thing where the black and white wires attach. It's broken after that from the metal thing to where it stretches over the front of the pickup and attaches to the bottom. I hope that's clear. Is this a problem? The pickup seems to work fine, but I want to get it repaired ASAP if something is wrong. Thanks.

The wire wraps around the eyelet and is soldered to it. The wire comes from the coil, so as long as that length of wire is not broken it's not a problem. The wire going around the outside edge of the flatwork doesn't really matter. Since the pickup works, you are fine.

In the future, try and open up the cavity to prevent that from happening.

Thanks so much!

Sounds good on my little practice amp. I'll report back after playing with the full band on Thursday.

I put the Novak split coil tele bass pickup to the test last night. I am very pleased with how it sounded. There was a nice growl that really had a presence. Loved it. As for strings, I used some Ernie Ball Slinky's.
