Pickup Cavity Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Squier P/J and replaced the stock pups with the Dimarzio's. The J pup cavity was almost to small for the pup. It went in but is really tight, should there be some room around it? The P pups "float" on the foam but the J pup is "crammed in the cavity. Should I rout it out a bit or leave it alone?

I like about 1/16th clearance. Close but not tight.
