So...my '91 Warwick Streamer with Bartolinis needs a new life.... simlpy too t"dark" sounding for the the type of music I play nowadays (finger funk, slap, pop) so I'm thinking on upgrading. What would you choose?

Thx!

Certainly i personally will say no to MEC. They alright pickup but after a few month you want to change them. They sound thin to me.

EMG will certainly give you a good output etc Typical EMG sound, some like and some hate.

Bassline is a good option, it give you more aggressive type of tone, more punch and low mid.

Nordy is good but think it won't go too well in your needs, if you don't like the bart i don't think the nordy will do you any justice.

Now someone mention Delano, I'm currently use them on my corvette. First they don't give you huge amount of output like EMG or Bassline. But they do sound abit like the stock MEC so you don't lose much of that warwick sound (some may disagree with me). Delano make your tone more transparent, clear, punch, more mids, clarity and more sustain in my experience of using delano pickups.

hmmmm..Delanos....that's an interesting thought! I 've got a Sandberg PM5 Calif with Delanos and it sounds really good! I'll investigate!

Cheers for the fresh perspective!

I voted MEC. I have 2 LX5s with them and they sound pretty damned good to me. The EQs in them, on the other hand, I can take or leave (I usually leave them flat or defeated).

I voted for MECs also. However, if you can add a Seymour-Duncan active preamp into the equation, that would be the route I'd go. I have that setup in a Fortress fiver, and the tone is really punchy and dry for that funky sound, while still retaining a nice, smooth low end. The slap contour is nice (even though you really don't need it); it reminds me of that R&B studio slap sound you hear on the radio.
