I have removed covers on potted PUs by CAREFULLY working a SHARP thin bladed knife between the cover and the bottom of the bobbin. Knife blade must always be against the inside wall of the cover to keep it off the coil winding. Sometimes it's worked and sometimes not. There's always the possibility of destroying the PU, the cover, breaking the knife blade or removing one of your fingers.

Personally if I can buy a cover that fits, I do.

Why not just buy new covers?

I've built a bass from rough lumber club #2 (I'm pretty sure).

i had actually tried getting it off with an x-acto knife, but it really doesnt wanna come off... i think i'll try again though, haha.

i was hoping i could just use the cover, but i might have to get a new one. that price isn't so bad, jworrellness. thanks! if there's still a solution without me having to buy one, though, i'd rather not have to.
