Pickup dead, help please

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, here's the story

I have a fender bass p-bass deluxe, i believe thats what its called (The one with the p-bass pickup in the middle and a jazz bass pickup next to the bridge.)

I was playing it fine at a lesson last week and suddenly lost all the sound from the middle pickup.(each pickup has its own volume nob)

The bridge pickup works fine.(the jazz bass one)

i took the pick guard off to see if there were any obvious problems, like a broken wire or solder, but i don't see anything.

The local repair place(i live in Idaho falls so i don't have too many options on music stores) will charge me $25 to look at it, and i literally have no money, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

any ideas on how to locate the problem, or any ideas on what the problem might be?

Did you check to see if one of the leads from the pickup came un-attached on the pickup side? That's also a possibility.

that's epoxy...your pickup is potted in epoxy...

if you have a broken wire in your pickup, it's most likely on the lead and it's nearly impossible to repair...

to check for this, you need to disconnect your pickup and get an ohm meter and check the resistance across your pickup..

if it's open circuit...replace the pickup...

I had a pickup fail once...fortunately, it was a wax pot and the lead was easily reattached...
