pickup and Electronics upgrades

Sign in to disble this ad
I own a 1992 Japan made Ibanez SR500 4-string bass.

The body is made of basswood. The neck packup is an Ibanez P-1 P-type packup and the bridge packup is an Ibanez J-1 J-type packup, i.e. P/J style pickups. There are 4 control knobs, balancer, volume, bass and treble for the EQ-BII Active EQ.

I am not very satisfied with its sound and I want something warm and smooth. So I am thinking of upgrading the packups and electronics. I prefer Bartolini or EMG. Any suggestions????

I live in Ontario Canada and where can I get those pickups and electronics set?

Or simply buy a new SR500 with Bartolini backups and mahogany body?

Thanks.

Alex

I took an SR400 and converted to EMG actives. Really "Growly" now. EMG's cost ma about $150.00 for the whole kit at musiciansfriend - had em installed for $20.00. No modification required!
