pickup hums like mad

i took off the back plate and if i touch the tone or volume controls, it stops. i figure there's a ground problem, but i really don't know what to do from there. the pickup is a split pickup. i have to turn the tone all the way down to keep it from buzzing. i believe the model is a yamaha rbx250f.

Make sure there is a ground wire going from the back of your volume pot through a hole to the bottom of your bridge (string ground) and that it is making good contact at both ends.

It only hums because it doesn't know the words! Sorry couldn't help myself.

Yeah, there's an open ground somewhere. Did you try moving some wires to see if it would quit buzzing? (plugged in and turned way down of course)

i took off the bridge and i double checked the ground problem. if it was that, it isn't now. it still hums loudly if i don't touch the strings, and buzzes a little bit when i do.
this is supposed to be a humbucking pickup, right?

I have a bass that would hum ridiculously loud as well, and would only stop if I touched the strings. It drove me crazy and I could never figure out why until one day a band mate turned off the halogen lamp we have in the room. It stopped humming immediately. Using any halogen bulbs where your rig is set up?

Terribly sorry to resurrect this mighty old thread. But I suffer the exact same problem.

Out of my 3 basses, two are afflicted by this. Is there any way prevent this? Is the halogen bulbs making interferences on the electrical current?
