Pickup I.D. needed - Schecter Monstertones

Sign in to disble this ad
Just pulled these from a '72 Jazz Bass. Was told that they were older Schecter Monstertones. Can anyone shed some light?

I found images of Monster Tones on this forum (Weezer/Matt Sharp Warmoth Jazz build);

They DO seem to be MT's, but the wire colors are both the same on mine (!?)

That Weezer bass is mine, but I can't see the pictures you've linked. If you can sort it, I'll see if they're Monstertones. I believe Schecter have been making MT's since the 70's so wire colours may vary over the years...I'm not too sure.

Lowdown,

Yep, they're definitely Monstertones. The colour of the wires says they're both neck pickups. Maybe it's the angle of the photos, but are they both the same size? On mine, the bridge pickup is slightly longer (as with most Jazz pickups) and the wires are white, red and black. Great pickups though!

Monster Necks

Both the same size. My luthier said they were identical, which puzzled him. This explains why they didn't hum-cancel when both on, yeah? I loved the sound of these, but that hum drove me nuts. Thanks for the input, UnDoNe !

Ahh there we go. These pickups are really hard to track down so I'd keep hold of them if I were you. Maybe keep an eye out for a J bridge pickup, or even a P-J set would be fine. It took me 2 years to find my set, so be prepared to wait!! The Rio Grande Muy Grande Jazz pickups look similar with the rounded edges if you needed a bridge pickup right away...not sure what they sound like though.

No problem...glad to help.

All you have to do is re-magnetize one of the pickups to the reverse polarity, and then wire it up out-of-phase with the other pickup and it will hum cancel.

many pickup makers can perform that task. I did it for a TB'ers Jazz pickup not too long ago.
