Pickup-masters i have a question!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just unmounted my mim J pickup and found out that it had 2 magnetic bars under the bobin wich were in contact with the rods.
I thought that the rods were the magnetic source in a pickup, am i wrong or is just that MIM pickups are POS?????

Whether they're POS or not has to do with your ears only.

They are very cheaply made pickups is what they are. Using ceramic magnets to magnetise the steel pole pieces. Regular Fender pickups usually have all Alnico 5 rods instead of those steel pole pieces and bar magnet.

You won't be able to switch the pole pieces to magnets very easily. That's why lots of people upgrade to new pickups after buying a cheaper instrument.

oh i didnt explain myself properly, im going to rewind the pickups (personal project) but im not going to do it with cheap magnets so in the end im just keeping the plastic bases of the pickups and the covers, there aint no direct replacement for MIM jazz V anyway.....
