Pickup position - sound clips inside

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I stumbled across this page of a small German bass builder "the bass factory".

Since he custom builds a lot, he is offering sound clips to download and feed through your rig to check what sound works for you.

Recorded straight into a Focusrite Octopre.
Great idea, and a neat resource for those like me who wonder how it would sound if the pickup position would be different.

Sample 1 , neck position

Sample 2, Precision position

Sample 3 Musicman position

Sample 4 bridge position

Great clips! Pickup position is such a huge factor in how a bass sounds, this is an excellent example of that, with all else being equal.

Hey, it's really cool if you open all four sound clips and play them all at once! Killer.

Someone should make a bass with four P bass pickups in it. That would sound killer...

I think Lee Sklar's old beater bass has EMG's in the neck and bridge position. Killer.

Very nifty! I especially like the conventional spot but the musicman position sounds great as well.
Not too crazy about his Tribute and Trinity body shapes.

Best regards,

Jarno.

My P never sounds like any of those samples, which is fine with me. i like a much rounder and warmer sound. But, yes, you can hear the differences pickup placement makes.

Dingwall basses with FD pickups are actually P-shaped coils in a soapbar housing

Now if he had different pickup options that would be great. I'd love to hear a musicman pickup in the P position.
