Pickup/preamp options for MTD Kingston Heir 4

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an MTD Kingston Heir 4 that plays better than any other bass I have had my hands on. Incredible...comfortable...etc.

The only down side for me is that I prefer a more "vintage" tone. For example, at times I want a real muffled tone...so I turn the highs off as well as the mids...yet there is still quite a bit of high frequency content.

This bass has a jazz up front and a MM in the bridge.
Any suggestions for options on preamp and/or pickup changes?

P.S. I have a VTBass pedal coming in the next couple days, and that is going into my signal chain. Perhaps that will do the trick for me and I can leave the p/u preamp alone?
TIA

The main issue I have is the noisy "J" pickup....so I am looking at the the noiseless models. Dimarzio Area J, etc.

Can anyone suggest a "J" that will drop right in without resorting to a router?
Thanks
