Pickup problem Fender p-bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so i have an 87 japan p-bass with a jbass pickup(but not special because it isnt active)

I just picked this bass up about 2 weeks ago, when i first got it, it sounded smooth, i loved the tone. Then slowly i felt the sound was degrading. Then tonight i was trying to push out more tone from my newly aquired sansamp bass driver, and basically my bass sounds dead. I know its not the pedal because when i plug direct into head, it still sounds dead, and i know its not the head because my other bass sounds fine. My question is could i potentially have a dead pickup? When i opened everything up, the wires are all in tact, and infact i noticed its wired in series.

I really dont want to have to buy new pickups but i guess i will if i have to.

much help is appreciated, thanks alot

Pickups don't slowly "die". They're simply magnets with wire wrapped around them, so nothing to wear out. Those magnets aren't going to demagnetize themselves (short of shoving your bass into a powerful demagnetizer).

However, you could still have wiring issues internal to the bass. Or your instrument cable is defective (I've had instances of internal shorts in the cable that cut down the volume). Have you noticed any crackles or pops when turning the controls on your bass?

I'm not sure what you mean by "trying to push out more tone". You want more treble, midrange, or??

You have both a j-pickup and a p-pickup, or just the j?
