Pickup Readings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can someone please explain this to me?
dimarzio 122's are 163 output and 11.3 dc resisitance
dimarzio 127's are 250 output and 19.16 dc resisitance
I get the general idea that the higher numbers mean a hotter pickup, but does a hotter pickup mean a higher output?
Im looking at replacing a p-pup with something that will give me a big thumpy sound and with all the choices and these numbers I just need to know what it all means. thanks

The DC resistance of a pickup means absolutely nothing.

well, it means nothing unless you're comparing two otherwise identical pickups, in which case the higher resistance means a louder and darker pickup.

dimarzio is kind of unusual in providing that output power spec. it's really only useful in comparing one dimarzio product with another.

in your case, the model P is nothing like the split P; they're built completely differently from each other.

the model P is a thick-sounding, less bright precision pickup.

the split P is more like a soapbar humbucker in its sound.
