Pickup rec for Ibanez GSR-200

Sign in to disble this ad
First, some context. I recently bought a 1994 SR-400 (passive) which has the stock Ibanez DXP/DXJ pups. After cleaning it up and putting new strings on it, I am very happy with the sound. It has a nice defined tone (some might say "growl", but I would call it "texture") with plenty of low end and, really, more highs than I want - easily fixed by cranking the tone pot down.

Now, I have this GSR200 which I found stupidly cheap (which was why I grabbed it). I love the way it plays (they both have identical strings btw), but the stock pups are meh. I have put in a bypass switch for the preamp, and found that the sound is pretty much the same unless I crank up the Phat EQ; so I run it passive 90% of the time anyway.

So: I'm looking to find a set of pups (really the P is the only important one because I never use the J) that will approximate what I have in the '94 SR400. I mostly want that well defined tone and solid low end; the highs are not important because I usually roll off the tone pot on both basses. And yes, I want to keep the pups on the SR400 so no swapping.

Thumbs up Exact same question

I just bought a GSR205 yesterday off Kijiji because it was a great deal and gives me a cheap venture into 5 string. I have an older SR400 which I love and have the exact same question you just asked. I want to upgrade the pickups on the GSR.
All help and comments greatly appreciated!!
