Pickup replacement for Fender MusicMaster

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently found a good replacement on the internet for the 6 pole guitar pickups that originally came in the "70"s Fender Musicmasters but now cannot find it again. Can anyone point me to a good replacement?

Do single coils for the 51 p bass fit?
Oherwise I think the one I had just had a strat pickup.

Someone makes a drop in for this bass, new, one of the big names, but I can't find it again. In fact, the original plastic cover would fit over it!

A Dimarzio Fast Track 1, SD Cool Rails or an EMG FT will all sound excellent in a shortscale bass; they did in mine. The first two should fit with no mods.

I believe that Seymour Duncan made the four-pole ones that were on the recent, (1999), batch... Six-pole pickups work fine, and even generate a bit wider magnetic field. Among others, I've tried the Cool Rails as well as a Bill Lawrence, Lace Sensor, well... a whole raft of choices. The stock pickup won, (though the Lace was very nice)...

You're probably better off looking at the electronics first. Try wiring straight to the jack. You may be surprised...

I've played a friend's 70s Musicmaster with a DiMarzio Fast Track 2. Much nicer than the original, IMO.
