Pickup replacement gone potentially wrong

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, so I recently just got some Kent Armstrong replacement pickups for my SR435 5 string, but there's one problem... they're slightly too small for the original cavity.

My brother and I just ried to put them in with two screws, but it was all wobbly. Are there any suggestions as to what I can do to secure it in the cavity better. Here's a picture with two quarters for some perspective.

The distance represented by the quarters is equal all around the pickup.

Also, I would like it to be closer to the strings, so is there a simultaneous solution to raise it higher towards the strings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need some foam to put under the pickups.

You could fill in the original cavity and route out a new cavity to fit the replacement pickups.

There is some foam under there that I took off the other pickups. Would more help stabilize it?

That sounds like it would require too much work and skill for what I'm loooking at doing. But thanks.

I do this to most of my basses, I put some folded paper just smaller than the pickups shape, under the foam, works perfect.
Depending on how high you want the pickups, you might need longer screws.

Could you show sime pictures of this? Sounds like a good idea. Would it help with the stability issue?

And yes, the stability is another huge plus, I'm a thumb planter, and movin pickups drives me crazy!

Every time, it's why I done it to 11 basses. You might have some in, and afterward need to add more, but thats about it, even when I sent one bass off to Fender to have the pickups and electronics replaced, they put them back into the bass for me!

These pics should give you the idea.
