Pickup replacement how-to

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I'm sure that around here somewhere is a thread on how to replace pickups. I want to replace the pickups in my Jazz Bass (MIJ Fretless Jaco Model) but am having a tough time finding information on doing this around here. I was hoping maybe someone could help me out or at least shoot me a link to a thread(s) on this topic. Thanks for all the help! I'm off to buy a soldering iron...

OK, so first do a search for threads on soldering. You'll find some good ideas on the appropriate wattage for an iron to use on electronics. HINT: it's NOT the 200-watt automotive iron you just bought.

Then do some web searches for information on soldering technique - there's plenty of info out there.

Then just be careful - the electronic part of changing pickups is simply disconnecting two wires and connecting two new ones.
