I put these pickups in my Marcus Miller with a John East pre:

They sound great. Warm, but with alot of snap and clarity. The bridge pickup in particular sounds alot better than the stock unit. Good definition, without sounding weak when soloed, which I found to be the case with what was originally in the bass.

beefy and warm isnt what a 70's pickup sounds like. id match something like a duncan sjb1 or a the lakland hanson pickups with the retro.

I had Retro-dlx in mine Marcus-IV for couple shows...yes it's great preamp lot of options but I think I like OBP-3/ OBP-1 little more becouse it does not sound "too active". Anyway if I'll have this bass with retro preamp I'll keep it with Retro-preamp! I had DiMarzio UJ in mine for year (?), I had Nordstrand SC (not happy), Antiquities II, SJB's-1, I was happy with SJB's...I think Aero pickups will work great too...maybe try some CS Fender's...
