Pickup replacement suggestions for MIA Deluxe Precision

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up a MIA Deluxe P-Bass. Best playing bass I've held in years. I'm not really sold on the SCN pickups that are standard.
Anyone have suggestions for direct replacement. Don't forget the bridge pickup is basically 2 jazz pickups stuck together.

Thanks.

To compete with the JJ bridge p'up, I'd probably go with something a little punchier than a stock P p'up. Duncan 1/4-Pounder is the first that comes to my mind. Rio Grande makes a hot version of a P, I believe. Lindy Fralin will wind anything you like - maybe ask him for a 15% overwound P. For that matter, doesn't Fender use hotter p'ups in their 'roadworn' series? You could try one of them.

Anyway, the long and short of it is, I'd try any P p'up that has a slightly hotter output so it better matches the bridge p'up.

Quarter pounders arent punchy to me. They are voiced scooped from Duncan and sound like crap when run through an onboard pre. Thats my experience, YMMV.

For my bass I will most likely go with a SPB2 from Duncan which is their "hot" P pickup. I have these in my other Precisions. What I need is a similar replacement for the bridge. I saw Delano makes something that is supposed to be direct fit but I dont care for the looks of it at all.
I would rig up something if I could just get the pickup cover off the bridge pickup, its stuck on there like crazy.

I think Delano and MEC are the only two companies that make those dual-J pickups.

Why not contact Seymour Duncan and see what they can do? They might be able to throw a couple of their J pickups into the old casing for you.

I would put a set of two Duncan J's in there myself if I could just get the cover off!

I have wanted to add a pvmc for a while and am in a similar boat with delanos double jazz a side from the looks not matching it's really expensive.
If you go to delanos website and click on custom shop it shows a five string version thay made of the bridge pickup. It screws in on the ends and not the sides though
It would be nice to have a double jvmc that fit the shell. i have a feeling that you might not want those big magnets that close together though.
