pickup sound change

hi all

just installed a set of nordstrand nj4sv into my jazz bass body.
Overall the sound is great but 2 things happen Im not so happy with.

1. The sound is warmer (and "better" to my ears) when the pickups are not at 100%, when I max them out they get kinda harsh

2. when Im playing only the bridge pickup, rolling back on the tone pot will also lower the volume

You think I did something wrong or this is normal?

tnx :)

too close to the strings?

1) It might be wired out of phase.
2)You might have the tone knob wired like a volume knob.
I would say if the tone knob controls the tone and volume its hooked up wrong but easy to fix
(although I think this would effect the volume for both pickups).

If you have the volume control not at 100%, and roll back the tone, it will lower the volume. This is an impedance related affect.

Try adjusting the pickup to not be so close to the strings and see if that helps with the harshness.

yeah on all above accounts…. harsh is the last adjective for the nj4sv (IMO/E)
