I have Fralins in my CIJ 62 Reissue Jazz bass - they sound amazing. Best PU's out there IMO.

Did you said deeper sound without loosing mid's....Model J's

I have them in my 70's VM and will be putting them in my VMJ FL soon.

Check this sticky in the pickups section...."J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

Good Luck!

+1 on the Model J's
Economical and sound good and strong. Wire the individual pups in series for the fretless (white and black solder together). Have a couple sets of them, one with push pull pots for each pup for series/par but seems to stay in series nearly all the time. Very nice lows and mids for a fretless. Dead quite as well which is also nice if you favor more or solo the bridge pu, which I tend to do on the fretless. Single coils will be noiser if you don't keep the vol balanced on each pup. Other fretless have some classic barts with their preamp - quite a bit different but love them as well. The preamp really makes the barts come alive.

Thanks guys!

I was really thinking about a set of Fralins or Fender CS (for a vintage tone) but since this is a fretless... I wanna go for a deep, warm sound... a sound with more presence on lows and mids than the stocks pickups.

I'm feeling Model J's talking to me rite now as I'm reading the tread (if I may keep the vintage vibe somehow,It'd be awesome too)

Is there a thread like that for bridge upgrade?

I bought these from all parts and I love them. Fixed spacing issues and kept a vintage look. they are smaller than the stock saddles so you can get the action nice and low. I have them on both my 70's VM and my fretless
