Pickup Suggestions for Ancient RhythmLine

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've got this bass, and now I've got some dough to fix it up with. First off, need to lose the guitar pup that's in there and put in a proper bass pup.

Suggestions?

Also, any ideas as to a good replacement pickguard to fit any suggested pickups would be greatly appreciated.

Or (just a shot in the dark) does anyone know where I can find a '51 P-bass pickup, or a reissue pickup maybe? That's what this sucker is copying, so maybe I should go with that.

Thanks for the heads-up, m.oreilly, I'll keep it in mind.

As for the original pickup, I forgot to mention, it's actually one of the old style fender Telecaster guitar pups. I know it doesn't look like it from this angle but there's six poles set between the coils instead of four. It's pretty easy to tell when I plug it in that that thing wasn't made for bass.

I'm kind of curious to see how it sounds in a guitar, actually...

There's no difference in the design of guitar versus bass pickups so if the sound and balance string to string is fine it works. If you don't like the sound that's a different story. Putting in an old single coil P should sound pretty close to what you have now. By the way both Carvin & Steinberger and I think Fender have sold basses with "guitar" pickups.
