I'm building a bass out of mahogony. I'm lookin for a rich tone that's not necessarily really bright. I'm going for a slap bass that rips, but not in a distortion kinda way. I just wanna hear some powerful lows and strong mids that are clear but not really bright. About the closest fit to what i'm lookin for i think is a s duncan musicman replacement pickup and electronics package. Anybody disagree or have a better suggestion?

That was what I bought as my first choice (the alnico model + Tone Circuit).

Some EMG's are noted for being slap dogs.

If you have the money and time, having Larry Pollack at Aero build one for you would be a nice way to go, too.

Hope your mahogany works out well....that's a good, "middle of the road" tone wood.
