I love how beautiful are this...
I was thinking on a lovely ritter, that has a fretless neck, all over the body... With no visible pickup...

any thoughts? what kind of sound does it do? is only possible with piezo pups or can be done with mags?

Before I post this new thread I was looking for posts with this info with no success....

regards

I am aware of "under the neck" pickup on the 7string version of Uli Jon Roth's Sky guitar but nothing on a bass version yet

I was thinking of this kind of basses without pickups, or with pickups under fretboard or body/pickguard...

I don´t know very well, how luthiers do it...

From what I know, that's only possible with piezo pickups (mounted in the saddle) or the occasional optical pickup (which are very, very rare). So you're probably looking for something piezo.

Something like this, perhaps? http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/bsartpro6.jpg

i know that there was a rare ampeg bass in the 60's that had a hidden magnetic pickup inside the body, but what it sounded like, i have no idea.

here, i found some info on it here
http://xstrange.com/aeb1.html
"the AEB-1 and AUB-1 have many interesting technical features that were innovative at the time. The "mystery" pickup, as it was called in Ampeg's brochures, is buried in the body underneath the bridge. The bridge itself is mounted on a thin steel diaphragm plate overtop of two big magnetic coils cast into a large epoxy block. It's not a piezo pickup."

They were very odd basses, with scroll headstocks and no visable pickups.

Pagelli makes them. Well, that is they make them with pu's in the bridge. As you can't see:
